OpenSUSE 11.1 – VMware Server 2

[lang_en]We installed VMware Player in one of previous post, we will install VMWare Server 2 to our Linux machine now. Before we start you have to uninstall VMWare Player because VMware Player and Server cannot be installed on one machine.

  1. Run firefox (or other Internet browser) and go to page http://www.vmware.com/freedownload/login.php?product=server20
  2. You have to sign in before you start download of VMware Server 2. If you don’t have VMware account you can create your one, when you fill simple form about you your account will be created and you can download you VMware Server copy and your free serial number.
  3. Go to the URL https://www.vmware.com/freedownload/p/download.php
  4. Select package which you want download. My choice was “VMware Server 2 for Linux Operating Systems – RPM”.

  5. Save file to your home folder
  6. Run console and run command:
    sudo /sbin/yast -i gcc gcc-c++ binutils make kernel-source
    This step will install software required for VMware Server installation.
  7. go to your home folder (where should be downloaded your vmware-server RPM file) by command “cd”
  8. Run VMware Server installation by command:
    sudo rpm -Uvh VMware-server-2.0.1-156745.i386.rpm
  9. Run VMware Server configuration by command:
    sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
  10. Read and approve user license
  11. There is list of my answers:
    1. None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)?
      My answer: YES

  12. We have to configure OpenSUSE Firewall now. Run YAST2 and run Firewall configuration.

  13. Open configuration of “Allowed Services” and click on button “Advanced”.

  14. To the field “TCP ports” write values “8080 4443”. It will open port for display vmware-server configuration pages.

  15. We can open vmware-server administration pages now. Run firefox and open url adress: https://your_computer_ip:4443.

  16. Add exception for certificate in your firefox.

  17. You should see vmware-server login dialog. Login as user which you set in vmserver-confgi.pl. I set user “root” as administrator of vmware-server.

  18. VmWare-Server administration pages should be displayed now. You can add new administration users in tab “Permissions”.

V jednom z předchozích článků jsme si řekli jak nainstalovat VMware Player, dnes si nainstalujeme na VMWare Server 2 do našeo Linuxového stroje. Než začneme s instalaci VMWare-Serveru musíme odinstalovat VMWare Player protože oba produkty nemohou být současně nainstalovány na jednom stroji.

  1. Spusťte firefox (nebo jiný internetový prohlížeč) a otevřete stránku http://www.vmware.com/freedownload/login.php?product=server20
  2. Nejdříve se musíte přihlásit. Pokud nemáte VMWare účet můžete jej snadno získat, když vyplníte formulář.
  3. Běžte na URL https://www.vmware.com/freedownload/p/download.php
  4. Vyberte si balíček, který chcete stáhnout. Já jsem si vybral “VMware Server 2 for Linux Operating Systems – RPM”.

  5. Uložte soubor do vašeho domovského adresáře
  6. Spusťte konzoli a v ní příkaz:
    sudo /sbin/yast -i gcc gcc-c++ binutils make kernel-source
    Tímto krokem nainstalujete potřebné balíčky pro VMware Server.
  7. Běžte do vašeho domovského adresáře (kde máte stažený váš vmware-server RPM balíček) pomocí příkazu “cd”
  8. Spusťte instalaci VMware Server příkazem:
    sudo rpm -Uvh VMware-server-2.0.1-156745.i386.rpm
  9. Nyní můžeme spustit konfiguraci příkazem:
    sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
  10. Přečtěte a odsouhlaste licenci

  12. Nyní musíme zkonfigurovat OpenSUSE Firewall. Spusťte YAST2 a v něm konfiguraci Firewallu.

  13. Otevřete konfiguraci “Povolené služby” a klikněte na tlačítko “Pokročilé”.

  14. Do řádky “TCP porty” napište “8080 4443”. Tím otevřeme porty po vmware-server administrační stránky.

  15. Nyní můžeme otevřít stránky administrace vmware-serveru. Spusťte firefox and otevřete url adresu: https://vase_ip_adresa:4443.

  16. Přidejte do firefoxu výjimku na nedůvěryhodný certifikát.

  17. Nyní by jste měli vidět vmware-server login dialog. Zalogujte se jako uživatel, kterého jste nastavili v konfiguraci vmware-serveru (vmserver-confgi.pl). Já jsem použil uživatele “root”.

  18. Nyní se zobrazí VmWare-Server administrační stránky a my můžeme začít pracovat. Pokud chcete přidat další uživatele ůžete to udělat na záložce “Permissions”.
