I was thinking about the basic concept of controlling my ROV.
Control via acoustic modem
My first thought, of course, was about totally wireless control using only acoustic modem, but I soon realized that this was not the right way. Acoustic modems are expensive devices, the cheapest starting at $ 3,000 and $ 15,000 for the modems are not anything unusual.
Another problem is the speed, at ideal conditions is around 30kB/s
ROV control by cable
The cheapest, safest and most used option. ROV and laptop are connected with long cable. This solution is the most common, but also least comfortable.
Control using wireless at air and cable in the water
The ideal concept for me is a combination of both solutions, there is no problem transmitting the signal in air today and cable can be used only between ROV and buoy.
All equipment including batteries will be mounted on ROV. ROV will be connected with buoy by cable and buoy will communicate with laptop by bluetooth or WiFi. WiFi access point can be placed on land.
