Installation of Eclipse Helios JEE 64bit and plugins for Java development

Guide for Eclipse Helios JEE 64bit and plugins installation which I use for Java development

Ecipse installation

  • Download Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 64bit eddition from this URL: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
  • Go to the /usr/loacl folder by cd command
    cd /usr/local
  • Unpack downloaded tar.gz package
    sudo tar xvzf /home/USER_NAME/Downloads/eclipse-jee-helios-SR1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz
  • You have eclipse installed now

Plugins

Subclipse

Subclipse is an Eclipse Team Provider plug-in providing support for Subversion within the Eclipse IDE. The software is released under the Eclipse Public License (EPL) 1.0 open source license.

  • You have to install subversion and library for binding svn to java. In ubuntu you can do it by this command:
    sudo apt-get install subversion libsvn-java
  • Run Eclipse – Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: Subclipse
    Location: http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x/
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected all of them)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard – Edit eclipse.ini file, you have to put informatin about path to jni (JAVA HL) to the end of the file
    sudo nano /usr/local/eclipse/eclipse.ini
  • If you use Ubuntu 10.10 you can put this line to the eclipse.ini file
    -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni
  • Save eclipse.ini file
  • Restart Eclipse IDE
  • You have subversion integrated to your Eclipse now.

BIRTBusiness Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT)

BIRT is an open source Eclipse-based reporting system that integrates with your Java/J2EE application to produce compelling reports.

  • Run Eclipse – Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: BIRT
    Location: http://download.eclipse.org/birt/update-site/2.6/
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected all)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

m2eclipse

It is Maven plugin for Eclipse

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: m2eclipse
    Location: http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e/
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected all – Maven Integration for Eclipse)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

m2eclipse extras

Extras for Maven plugin

NOTE: m2eclipose plugin have to be installed.

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: m2eclipse extras
    Location: http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e-extras/
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected only Maven Integration for Eclipse Extras)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

Google Plugin for Eclipse

The Google Plugin for Eclipse provides IDE support for Google Web Toolkit and App Engine web projects.

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: Google Plugin
    Location: http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.6
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected all – Plugin and SDK)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

GWT Designer

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: GWT Designer
    Location: http://dl.google.com/eclipse/inst/d2gwt/latest/3.6
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected all – GWT Designer, GWT Designer Editor and Infrastructure)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

WindowBuilder Pro

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: WindowBuilder Pro
    Location: http://dl.google.com/eclipse/inst/d2wbpro/latest/3.6
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected everything)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE

JBoss Tools

JBoss Tools is an umbrella project for a set of Eclipse plugins that supports JBoss and related technology; there are support for Hibernate, JBoss AS, Drools, jBPM, JSF, (X)HTML, Seam, Smooks, JBoss ESB, JBoss Portal and more..

NOTE: You have instal features below to your Eclipse IDE before you start intsallation of JBoss Tools: BIRT 2.6 m2eclipse 0.10 Release m2eclipse 0.10 Extras Subclipse 1.6 Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.6 (Helios)

JBoss Tools installation:

  • Run Eclipse
  • Menu “Help -> Install New Software”
  • “Add” button
  • Fill form
    Name: JBoss Tools
    Location: http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development
  • Click “OK” button
  • Select features which you would like install. (I selected only element “All JBoss Tools 3.2.0”. This option install everything)
  • Click “Next” button and follow installation wizard
  • Restart Eclipse IDE
